I bite my lip。"Second, third, fourth。 Whatever it takes。 However long it takes。 If the person is right," he adds。"If the person is。。。 Lola?"This time, he holds my gaze。 "Only if the other person is Cricket。” “And if I'm the stars, Cricket Bell is entire galaxies。” 。。。more

Im back at it again with a Stephanie Perkins book to say, this was the best book ever!!! Lola and the Boy Next Door was so cute and kinda suspensive。 Once again her description was on fleak, and you could really get an image in your head。 I read this about 3 times before telling myself to buy more books。 I really fell in love with this book。 But before you read this book, read Anna and the French Kiss。 I wrote a review on that book as well。 After you read Anna's book and Lola's book you have to Im back at it again with a Stephanie Perkins book to say, this was the best book ever!!! 47th book of 2021 There are contemporary books that are similar to others and blend in, that somehow become unforgettable because of the realistic and well fleshed-out, relatable characters。 And then there are books like Lola and the Boy Next Door where the main character and practically everything that happens in the book makes you wonder if this is just the town they're living in or something else—the worst bit being that the book becomes so plain you can't。 Feel。 Anything。 The characters are 47th book of 2021 There are contemporary books that are similar to others and blend in, that somehow become unforgettable because of the realistic and well fleshed-out, relatable characters。 And then there are books like Lola and the Boy Next Door where the main character and practically everything that happens in the book makes you wonder if this is just the town they're living in or something else—the worst bit being that the book becomes so plain you can't。 Feel。 Anything。 The characters are strange。 From the beginning cutscene we're shown, readers are left questioning: is the love interest named 'Cricket'? Is this another love triangle? And then this scene makes the tension the author attempts to build in the first three chapters so, so irritating (the Lola panicking as she went about in her neighborhood upon realizing that THE NEIGHBORS HAD RETURNED, yes, was written well and made me slightly tense—but once you realize what it's about, you just want to crawl into a hole and forget such a narrator exists。)。 Okay。 But。 Back to the characters。 We read through Lola's perspective。 Now, I typically never have very harsh opinions about books and narrators in general, no matter how annoying they can be, and I'll admit I didn't find Lola too terrible。 She's strange。 Very strange。 But once we were introduced to the almost even-stranger neighbors, I started to wonder: Oh。 So it's a San Francisco kind of thing。 And that made the unrealistic-ness of the situation more bearable。 That girl is EXTRA。 The entire book is EXTRA。 (the ending was so overwhelming in terms of what? is this meant to be romantic? and underwhelming in terms of the actual romance。 Cricket is the boy next door。 He's an inventor with a famous figure-skating sister named Calliope。 There's an Asian best friend if I'm not wrong named Lindsey。 The romance is the main plot, and surprisingly, I wasn't very drawn to it。 Honestly, I love love triangles。 Even if they're fairly unrealistic and irritating when stretched out。 So the love triangle(?) in this book was all right for me。 It wasn't that bad。 I just found that Lola overreacted too much and the subplots weren't developed enough to distract from her and her conflict of choosing between Max and Cricket。 What I liked about the romance: There were a lot of scenes we were given to truly flesh out Lola and Cricket's relationship and there were definitely some several cute moments。 What I didn't like: How Lola treated the other characters (I know she's FLAWED and that makes her better but still) and how only one side of the triangle was given attention, making the option obvious and therefore lessening our connection to our indecisive main character。 I also just couldn't like Cricket or Max much。 I know it's preference though。 OH but not to mention how EXTRA the relationship also is, leaving me with an unsatisfied feeling in the end。 (view spoiler)[ the 'story' about the girl and the stars and moon is TOO MUCH。 The kissing scenes are TOO MUCH。 There's nothing built at all about the girl and the stars except for the fact that Lola talks to the moon and you can tell it's meant to make the story more romantic but it just doesn't work。 (hide spoiler)] (also, the flashbacks and explanation of Cricket and Lola's past is underwhelming。 There's not enough conflict and Lola makes it seem so dramatic。 You'll hear the phrase: MY FIRST LOVE WHO BROKE MY HEART a lot。 Guess what? The heartbreaking is (view spoiler)[ over not being invited to a 16 year old's birthday party。 (hide spoiler)] I don't know if you realize, but there's a difference between being twelve, and being fifteen/sixteen。)I found the subplots interesting though。 Slightly more development with the mom one would've benefited the book, but I liked that one, even if it's clear the storyline exists just as an excuse for more action。 Lola's character development journey is also one of the best parts about the story。 I found her wanting to stand out relatable in a way, and see how torn she must feel under costume and especially with other people saying things。OOH, but I adored the scene where (view spoiler)[ Cricket and Lola are discovered by the strict parents (hide spoiler)] Overall I just loved the gay parents。 They added to how wholesome the story was, and there are some comedic moments in there I laughed at。 The rep isn't bad, although the Asian best friend should've been given a better arc in my opinion。 Sometimes you can tell when authors are putting in diversity just for the sake of it。 (Just a question for you all: do you think making Lindsey so education-centered is stereotypical representation or not?) But yeah。 The story wasn't bad。 I liked it, I just didn't like it as much as Anna and the French Kiss。 You might be wondering why I've given it five stars when I've had so much to say; the truth is, I didn't mind this book。 The pacing is quick enough and I finished in about three sittings。 It's contemporary, and it's perfect。 The writing style also fits the genre perfectly and makes for a fast, fun read! I'm pleased with this book—I read Anna and the French Kiss a few months (?) ago and I can see why people would be disappointed with this novel, however, it's as good as it could've been considering the characters and intended storyline :) OH, and I really liked how the characters were always active and took initiative!started June 9, finished June 10, 2021 。。。more

My least fav in the series。 It's cute but I felt like the characters lacked depth。 We didn't get much from cricket, and also, why is his name cricket? I really enjoyed this book。 I liked how it was about someone else, but you still got to see a bit of Anna and St Clair。 It was a bit predictable, but that is to be expected with a romance novel。 I recommend this to anyone who enjoyed Anna and the French Kiss

Full stop idc how good the rest of the book put starting it off with a character who is 17 dating a 22 year old getting mad over how dads being disapproving is ridiculous。 It’s gross it pedophilic and the fact that the other choice is named CRICKET? Shut up I DNFed this and I NEVER DNF books。

I don’t know how it happened, but for the first time in a long time, I finished a book in one day (8。5 hours including breaks to be precise)。 I really enjoyed this after having read Anna and the French Kiss。 I loved that Anna and St Clair feature in Lola’s story too, but without stealing the spotlight。 At the moment, these are the perfect books easing me back into reading and I’m really enjoying them。 I get sucked in and I just keep reading and reading。 I didn’t enjoy this story as much as Anna’ I don’t know how it happened, but for the first time in a long time, I finished a book in one day (8。5 hours including breaks to be precise)。 I really enjoyed this after having read Anna and the French Kiss。 I loved that Anna and St Clair feature in Lola’s story too, but without stealing the spotlight。 At the moment, these are the perfect books easing me back into reading and I’m really enjoying them。 I get sucked in and I just keep reading and reading。 I didn’t enjoy this story as much as Anna’s, however if you loved Anna’s then I would definitely recommend reading this one too。 There are times I would just smile to myself at particular scenes, or even just laugh out loud。 A great read on a sunny afternoon, sat in the garden。 。。。more

I hate Lola, she is so annoying。 Cricket wasn’t realistic。 Anna and Étienne were there for no reason。 And yet why did I read the whole thing? In like three days? Whatever, I think I have issues。

I was a bit disappointed by this book because I loved “Anna & the French Kiss” so much。 Obviously, because this was San Francisco where the characters grew up there wasn’t as much touring through the city and places to discover, but that was one point I really loved about the last book。 Lola was a cool character though I’m so amazed by people who can sew。 Otherwise there aren’t as many points I loved about it unfortunately。SPOILER SECTIONCricket and Lola being neighbours was very delightful。 The I was a bit disappointed by this book because I loved “Anna & the French Kiss” so much。 Obviously, because this was San Francisco where the characters grew up there wasn’t as much touring through the city and places to discover, but that was one point I really loved about the last book。 Lola was a cool character though I’m so amazed by people who can sew。 Otherwise there aren’t as many points I loved about it unfortunately。SPOILER SECTIONCricket and Lola being neighbours was very delightful。 The knocking, the taking at night and them secretly watching each other was so sweet。 Cricket as a character though。。。 His talent for inventing and building devices is super interesting but other than that I didn’t find him to be very exciting。 Also I got to say that I hate his name。 Like whyyyyy would you name a lovable character after an insect?? I didn’t even consider this a possible name for a person before。 Calliope isn’t much better。 🙈Lola parents being Nathan and Andy was amazing in my imagination but they were ridiculously strict and never seemed to be happy ever。 They annoyed me sooo much! 2。5 stars。 I read Anna and the French Kiss at the start of the year and absolutely loved it- the Paris setting and the characters gave me real Emily in Paris vibes- and so I had high expectations for this book。 It isn’t quite a sequel to AATFK, more of a companion/spin-off story that follows Lola, an eccentric teen who lives in San Francisco as an old neighbour re-enters her life。 And whilst it was a cute story, I didn’t find it nearly as gripping, evocative and dreamy as I had hoped。 I didn’t p 2。5 stars。 I read Anna and the French Kiss at the start of the year and absolutely loved it- the Paris setting and the characters gave me real Emily in Paris vibes- and so I had high expectations for this book。 It isn’t quite a sequel to AATFK, more of a companion/spin-off story that follows Lola, an eccentric teen who lives in San Francisco as an old neighbour re-enters her life。 And whilst it was a cute story, I didn’t find it nearly as gripping, evocative and dreamy as I had hoped。 I didn’t particularly connect with the setting of the book or the characters and so was slightly disappointed with it。 That said, I will definitely be reading the final book in the series very soon! 。。。more

Another nice and easy read。 Nothing too complex about this one。 I think Lola was eccentric, and a bit of a rebel at the beginning。 Cricket (what a name) was definitely the perfect ‘boy next door’ and you can’t help but to want it to all turn out for the better。 A cute read all around。
